What the Problem Was:
BACH needed to demonstrate the scale and reach of its 37 member concert halls' operations across the UK and Republic of Ireland. This is the first time the organisation had attempted to gather this information in order to tell its impact story, and they approached Indigo to see if and how it might be done.
What We Did:
- Data Collection and Aggregation: Indigo collected and analyzed data from 26 out of the 37 BACH members. This included ticketing, income, and discount schemes data from each of the venues.
- Analysis: We aggregated the data to provide a picture of total income, ticket sales, pricing, and the range of events. This included identifying the proportion of income generated from tickets versus public investment and the effectiveness of discount schemes for young people.
- Reporting: We produced a report detailing the total operation of these venues, focusing on music but also including a variety of other performances like dance, comedy, and drama. The report highlighted key financial figures and audience statistics.
The Results:
The report, which has been shared widely, showed that the venues generated £233 million in overall income, hosted over 9,000 concerts and events, and attracted over 6 million attendances. Music events constituted 63% of ticket sales, with a significant portion for classical music concerts. In addition audience development schemes successfully attracted over 100,000 young attendees, enhancing youth engagement.
